Just wanted to share a quick story about taking a kid fishing.... Fishing is certainly not for everyone and every kid but for those who have an interest don't let the fear of the unknown stop you.... Just do it!!

Take Michele... She found our site searching online since she wanted to take her son fishing and was looking for information on party boat fishing out of Atlantic Highlands. It was all new to her and was a bit overwhelming so she emailed me with some questions.

Based on our conversations and her situation she decided to avoid the crowds and go on a Sunday afternoon on trip, stay over and fish the next full day on Monday in order to get the attention she and her son needed for first timers.

She wrote me today and here's what she had to say....

So just wanted to thank you again. My son and I had a great time. We got down on Sunday early and popped over to the marina and actually ended up going out on the Sea Tiger from 130pm to 6pm- Everyone was so nice and I ended up fishing and had a blast. On Monday we went out on the Prowler 5 from 8am- 230pm - We met some amazingly nice people - Some man named Dwight who I missed saying goodbye to on Monday but he made our day- He basically adopted us and between him and the mates we laughed and just basically had a great time. I think I am now hooked on this fishing thing and I know my son is basically just planning a future of fishing in general LOL.

The reason for this post is to encourage others... Don't let the fear of the unknown stop you from taking a kid fishing, even if you've never been out yourself or if it's not your own kid.... Our sponsors, mates and patrons on their boats go out of their way to take care of people new to our great sport and the experience makes for some great memories and life long friendships...

THEY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED... Poles, bait, instructions, they love kids and have a deep passion to pass along the love of our great sport to others...

If you have questions call them directly or email me and we'll be sure to put you at ease.

And Michele, if you're reading this, your email was the highlight of my day. So glad you and your son had a great time and we here at NJFishing.com, our sponsors and their patrons helped make you and your sons trip a memorable one... Had it not been for someone like my uncle taking the time to take me fishing, I'd have missed out on a lifetime of enjoyment and I probably wouldn't have created this great community we have here.

A tip of the cap to the Captains, Mates and Dwight for taking such great care of Michele and her son... Makes my heart warm and now they're hooked like the rest of us.

This is such a great post. We are lucky to have so many great boats to fish on. I believe in getting kids out in nature, fishing and crabbing memories last forever.

Getting younger people involved in the sport is so rewarding !
Happy to have met Luke a college student who took to the Raritan river and it's tributaries like no ones business. Again with the family here at NJF it made it all possible and easy. Also working with a high school student who was displaced from Massachusetts and now resides close to my home. I take them fishing and give them whatever I can. Working with other groups like the young adults form Rutgers doing the American Shad survey as well as high school students that show up for river clean ups is also fun.
Great job by Gerry and the NJF family !

Hi Michele - This is Capt. Scott from the Prowler5. Thank you so much for the kind words. We enjoy having all folks come out... seasoned or not, especially the kids!! We like a family atmosphere on our boat. Actually, the fellow you mentioned is one of our regulars, his name is Dwayne Coppinger. He comes fishing at least twice a week and he's one of my favorites. I'm glad you had an awesome time with him and my crew (Mark and Zavier). Thank you. Capt. Scott, Prowler5.
