Got an invite on my friends new boat for a day troll trip. We set up pretty early and landed a nice Mahi right away. Unfortunately we didn't catch after that till a few hours later we went through a weed patch and we got a Pompano Dolphin around 25 inches. I think it was the first one I ever caught? After that we just got some short strikes on a few pots and spotted a tuna boil in the deep but had no takers after drilling that area. A slow trip for sure but I had a good time.

We were chasing a chlorophyll break, there was an area of clean blue water out there that was holding fish but they weren't biting for us. Some guys caught some didn't. That water was pulling out of there fast and I suspect it may be out of there by now? Thanks for the comeback guys, it's always good to get out there.

That's an expensive trip just for a few mahi. Hudson and Tuna have not been a good match for a few years. Most come up empty handed on tuna. Maybe if lucky a few 30 lb YFT.
Could have done Mahi at Chicken Canyon 25 miles closer and done that too.

I hear what you are saying, there have been some slow years in the Hudson lately. The guy that invited me wanted to target Bigeyes and other boats there were catching some as well as yellowfins and White Marlin. I haven't had any luck on Bigeyes at the Chicken and it was not for me to tell the boat owner to go there and try for them. As for expense, I really don't put a price on doing what I love to do most ,living free and getting offshore and leaving the crap . I spent around 50 to 60 bucks on this trip and the guy that owns the boat I don't think is stressing it either. I'm not planning on having a brinks truck following my hearse when I go. I'm hoping to give the Chicken area a try this weekend so you might not want to go there, I have really sucked at catching Tuna this year but I'm not gonna stop trying and I always have a good time and never regret going. Thanks for the suggestion Capitan Frank.

Apparently fri/sat out that way was a good eyeball bite. The water that was there looked like it moved out or dispersed quickly by Sunday. Some days its chicken, some days its feathers. At least you put effort forth vs being told you could've done something a day after the fact lol...
