Crazy question but I'll ask anyway... I have a noodle rod (9 foot Ugly Stick) with a Jupiter Z 4500 spinning reel, which has been gathering dust for 20 years. Did the Salmon River thing once, wasn't for me.

Anyway, I was thinking of taking this rod/reel late December for an offshore sea bass trip. Looking for opinions, is this even doable on a rod like this? Obviously I'd have another rod just in case, but was hoping to get some use out of this rod/reel, the other option would be sell it. I was thinking to spool it with 40# braid, and I'd be dropping 8-24 oz of lead. I would think if you could reel in a salmon with this setup, why not a cod or bluefish?

I do a lot of winter offshore sea bass trips
And in my opinion although it would a lot of fun
unless you have perfect conditions you would be
In trouble. But I would bring it along because you
Never know

i think a 9' rod would be very difficult to wield around on a partyboat. also a noodle rod for fishing deep water just doesn't make sense. i'm sure you could do it but the rod would be doubled over the whole time.

Its to light. The rod is going to load up and the thing will be bent in half just from the weight.

OK, makes sense. I don't recall using much weight when I did fish with it 20 years ago, but doesn't sound like it is the right tool for the job. Thanks.
