Fished the surf in Long Branch for Stripers and Fluke on Wednesday and Thursday from 7am to noon. No luck with stripers but I almost stepped on one in the wash on Wed. Started targeting Fluke around 9am. Allot action with short Fluke from 10 to 16” on Wed. All Fluke were caught around jetties with most of the action and all of the larger Fluke from the northeast corners of the jetties. Thursday was a complete bust with a stronger SE wind. Used the same rig for Fluke and Stripers, a 2oz Spro buctail tipped with Gulp with a dropper 18” above with naked fly teaser for bass. For Fluke, no Gulp and a 2/0 octopus with Gulp. Surprisingly all fluke but one hit the 2oz bucktail with a dark Gulp. They wouldn’t hit the bucktail with Chartuse Gulp which is my go to color. Also crabbed the pilings in the Navesink from my kayak Thursday afternoon. Waste of time, cloudy water with too much wind. Only scooped a few small crabs.
