I caught this fluke today that was brown on both sides except for just the white cheek plate. Has anybody ever seen one like this before? Genetic defect?

I've seen it a few times. Brown on lower half the white side and the bottom quarter of that side near the tail portion. I think it is genetic.
Years ago, I caught a yellowfin tuna without the top allison fin.

I saw a couple years ago, when we used to catch many fluke. Both were short, like yours, but each had more white near the gill plate. Great catch. Thanks for the pics. Papa

Seen a few like this over the years its a genetic mutation

More common than you might expect,, Caught a few like that over the years, and see lots of them on fishing sites that guys have caught..
They also turn up mostly white on both sides as well, but that particular mutation is a lot more rare, for obvious reasons.... bob
