Awesome report and pics, every time you post it brings back fond memories of the fishery we once had with ling and whiting right in our back yard, not haddock. I've had haddock twice in my life, they are without doubt one of the best tasting fish I've ever had. What is the season for them? I know your report says 12 man limit but how long does the season last. Some baseball bat whiting for sure, good to see them in numbers still albeit not where they once were. Hope we learn from our mistakes and that fishery is managed with future generations in mind.
Love the ninth picture down sitting in a lawn chair fishing for whiting and haddock in 300 feet of water.....priceless!

Best Fishing for Haddock is April thru Sept
Whiting June thru October with June, July, August and Sept Best
No disrespect intended this is much better thsn the good old days. Average sized fish is bigger. We catch these Whiting on thr anchor. There are so many ling we have to move stometimes to get away from them

Nice trip. I have a 6 pack booked with them in August. Do you use the boat rods and reels or do you bring your own? I know you fish deep water and just wondering if I should bring my own like a avet sx or canyon 15?

Interested in jumping on one of these 6 pack charters. In the event that anyone on this site has an open spot I would be very interested in filling it. My schedule is flexible, so no worries there. I can be reached via a PM or on facbook under Ed Rumsby. Thanks

Do you have a schedualed Whiting trip ?
All their Captains are great but as far as Whiting I only Fish with Captain Nate. I never use their equipment for Whiting. Way too heavy. Brkng your lightest rods possible that can handle 14 ounces of lead without rod bending too much. Fish with 50 lb braid and 10 to 20 feet of mono top shot

Also do not put any hooks near bottom. Too many ling. I fish 3 to 4 dropper loops from 3 feet off the bottom to 8 feet off bottom

Yes I did schedule a Whiting trip and said I would also like to catch some mackerel for bait. Do you bring your own rigs or use theirs?

I have 1 spot open for 9/21 Six Pack with Captain Nate
Al what date did you get for your Whiting Trip ?

We are booked for August 24. The rig you were talking about is that supplied by the boat or do you make them yourself? If you make them what size hook do you use?

I am sure it is not Captain Nate Or Captain Ralph. I have 2 Six Packs Booked on 8/24 and I have The Annie B and The Melanie Jeanne. I will be happy to make you a few Rigs that morning. Our boat is leaving at 5 AM and we have both boats on 12 Hour Marathons For Haddock and Pollock
Remember Sinker 12 to 16 ounces on the Bottom. 3 Dropper Loops and start with 1st one 3 Feet off the bottom then 5 Feet and 7 feet
Use Squid then as soon as you catch a few Whiting have the Captain Cut into Strips
DEEP WATER 275 to 350 MUST USE BRAID with 10 feet of mono Top Shot

Sounds like a easy rig to make I will make some up 40 or 50 pound test good enough? What kind of hook do you use and what size? Right now I have a 8 hour trip booked do you think that's good enough for whiting or should I go for a longer trip? It's my first time up there so I have a lot of questions.

I would skip on Mackeral
8 hours is enough
Use Squid and cut up Whiting for bait
Mackeral are a waste of time on an 8 hour trip
But it is your trip and do as you please

With mackeral, you'll be constantly changing bait or losing it. I found squid to be the easiest. You can use the the same pieces over & over so you can get back to the bottom faster. 3/0 or 4/0 hooks, but we've 5/0 on some trips. You don't lose rigs up there, so bringing all 3 sizes is easy. I use circle hooks, but most use J's. Reels with 300-350 yards of 50lb braid & a 10-20 ft mono top shot will work. I use a Saltist 30. Very simple fishing.

Thanks for the reply. The mackerel would be for bait in Jersey. It's my favorite fluke bait and you can't get Boston Mackerel around here anymore.

Eastman's has incredible mackerel fishing when it's in season which I believe is now. Not sure how it is at the end of Aug. Check their fishing reports before your trip. It's a long way to go for a half day trip, but you could go the afternoon before your trip. I'll be up there the 13th, I'll let you know how they're doing.
