Spent Saturday driffting around Atlantic City in the bays. Arrived around 5am at low tide, launched and fishing by 5:30. Started in a familiar area, very little action, deadlow tide and no wind so there was no drift, and clouds of no see ums!. Motored off to explore new areas and hopefully find some current. Eventually current picked up, I landed some shorts, and my brother landed a nice keeper around 20 in. The wind picked up but was against the current where we were so we headed back to where we started and found good drifting conditions.

I started catching fish, was probably up to a dozen shorts before my first keeper which could have been the twin to my brothers 20 incher. Short action continued.... We were starting our drifts in about 5 feet of water, drifting on an angle across the channel. We would get most fish on the start and end of the drift, usually in 7-10 ft of water. We eventually found a line of drift that took us way out of the channel into an area no one was fishing. It maintained 7ft depth, and we caught lots of fish in the 15-17" range. Eventually filling our limits. Lengths 20.5, 20,5, 19.5, 18.5, and two at 18.25" Headed back to the ramp and were on the road home by 11:30. 30+ shorts between us in the process. Incoming tide cleaned up the water and turned on the bite in my opinion.

I caught fish on 1 oz white buckail jigs with a 4" new penny shrimp, and a 5" swimming mullet in chartruse or white on a teaser above the bucktail. Most fish hit the jig. Caught fish were full of small shrimp and crabs. I would not hesitate to try one of the gulp pealer crabs on my teaser next time out

Nice job. That's why guys in South Jersey would like to see the season open on April 25th instead of May 25th. The big ones show up early.
