Joined Henry and Ronnie this morning on our annual Shark River fluke opener. We started our first drift 10' past our Marina and had instant action (after I landed 2 shorts on my 1st 3 casts from the dock). They wanted the meat today, folks using Gulp! had far fewer hookups. With warmer water on the outgoing tide we had 8 keepers and 50+ shorts in our 4 hour trip. We actually had those 8 keepers in the first 2.5 hours but could not put that elusive 'bingo' fish in the boat (my fault I was a slacker today). The tide stopped moving, the fish stopped biting and we were done.
I love skinny water flukin' with my trout stick. It's a pleasure to use 1/2 jigs for this early season bite. LAst year's pinhooker did not deplete the river this year so we're hopeful the bite lasts longer. Catch 'em up . . . :)

Larry always a pleasure. Our Same cast of characters for the Fluke opener. Never left the river, fished from middle of the tide to the bottom. From the start
We had a nice pick of fish.
First 4 or5 drifts we picked a load of shorts from 8 inches to 17 3/4 and a nice keeper. As the tide continued to drop we still picked but it slowed down each drift. Fish definitely wanted bait. but fishing with a teaser or a light jig those with hair definitely outfished the totally naked jig or teaser hook. Nice way to start the season, Good fishing to all and have a safe and enjoyable season.
We will report both good and bad, but hope my days off are all this productive.

Great Job Henry, Larry and Ron. Sorry i missed out this trip but will be down soon. Henry you really know the river spots for sure.
One question: Larry you admit to Henry and Ron doing the heavy work yet you are holding 3 fish in the picture:confused: just sayin :D
Congrats on a good day and in a short trip!

Ah the shark river rig! I remember slamming them there as a kid in a canoe...#4 hooks on a split shot rig, small killies.
Great job Larry, you might see me bobbing around in my kayak down there!
