I agree with that. It seems like the private normal people haven’t been posting, me included. Everyone gets busy. I’m going to try to be better about posting this year. I’ll also include where I was fishing and detailed results. Nothing against the charter reports but it gets old reading them. You hear about the”hot Raritan Bay striper fishing” but see most of the charter guys trolling every time ur out there with them. Trolling is not a hot bite and the bass fishing has been spotty this year. Just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. Capt ron summed it up saying it’s the worst in 40 years. God bless the guys getting them. I haven’t had a lot of luck thus far. To any private boats reading this, let’s make an effort to post more this year.

I logged on for the first time in a while last week and thought the same thing....i didn't count but i would be safe to say 80% of the posts were ng charter/party boats reports. I didn't even bother to search any other sites.
Now i would say it's less that 50% so maybe I'll check on the weekends.
Damn do we miss LAB.......

Fished Thursday and Friday. Tried anchoring and clamming on decent readings at first bc I think trolling for stripers is gay lol. I was fishing in the Raritan out closer to the navy pier. Caught an over 43 and a 29” within 15 minutes only keeping the 29. There were 2 charter boated trolling around us for about an hour, no names mentioned. Then it died and we drifted and bunker chunked our way towards the back bay for a bit. Nothing. Tried some areas in the back bay again trying to anchor up. No luck though. Like I said when the bait bite blows the fishing is not red hot imho. That being said it’s striper fishing and someone always finds some fish.

Taxman, this board isn't just about posting fishing reports.
Really, I could give a sh*t about what some PB, Charter Boat chest pumping egomaniac posts. I want to learn, I want to hear about something new i new....like reason162's report about Gulp vs Keitech.
I understand the fishing industry is a tough business but mabey it's time for a Reports Forum.
I know I'm not the only who feels this way, most of my friends don't visit this site anymore for this reason.

I would agree, this has become more of a party/charter report section.. However, its NOT the fault of the captains and crews doing the reporting , its all of us. They are all sponsors and have every right to speak up about the fishing trips they offer, and their daily experiences..
Many of us that are "regular contributors here would submit broad interest salt water fishing topics to be discussed by anyone that was interested.. That has fallen off to nothing.. I actually have had nasty comments from members, that this was a "reports section", and not to post general salt water fishing topics... It is what it is, but if we want to keep this a "salt water fishing discussion board", the membership must step up, submit good topic material, and join in the conversations, and be contributors, not detractors... I see Gerry has written some nice pieces from time to time about species, techniques, seasons, localities, and they are always well done and well received. In my opinion, this section could use a bit more of that. there is a TON of great experience here, and a lot of it isn't being shared... bob

I didn't see his post as bitching.. He was just making a valid point... Some of us agree, and would rather see a bit more discussion... bob

It’s all good. There is nothing wrong with the charter posts. It’s just the same bs every day making a fishery into more than it is. In the end it’s the private boats that need to step up and post more. Myself included. Just for some diversity. Charter boats only post for one reason. Private boats could care less about money and will also post more detail generally and are more interesting to read. So in the end the message here is the private menenbers all need to try to step it up

I haven't posted this season, mainly because my boat has not hit the water yet.
In the past if I was not ready I would hop on with Capt. Ron. But everyday off the weather has been horrible. I am not just a fair weather fisherman, but after
55 plus years I like to enjoy myself and not come home wet and exhausted. This is the first time since the early 60's I have yet to get out.
Hopefully once this weather turns all of us will stop bitchin and start posting.

As most of you regulars know, since I am basically a SURF fisherman,Possibly the only one posting results after every days outing giving SURF reports only. Have not had the time to get out there yet, hoping to be out there next week and the reports will follow as usual. Sandy Hook is my spot...I know that covers lotsa territory but I keep moving up and down the different beaches. As the swimming season begins, my areas will be limited so I do not hook a swimmer. See ya all later, Rammie RAMMFISH!!!!
I still enjoy reading all of the different posts and have been doing it for many seasons....

a report is a report. there are alot of guys like myself that don't own their own boat and fish party and charterboats often. if your not posting reports don't be pissed at the guys who are. this is a great site with lotsa great info.

We have been out 7 times and got our boat limit and more every time except the first trip in early April. We got them trolling and I have not posted because busy with lots and lots of stuff. The charter guys are an invaluable source of information and its laughable that any fisherman would not take advantage of the reports.

Great point raised by shucker. That said, it’s partly just the world today.
I like all the reports. Would be great to have more, of course. It’s not on the people that are posting.
Before having my own boat, I fished with many of the captains on here, lots of great ones.
Gerry’s how-to posts are invaluable.
Heading out Tuesday if all goes well on the home front. Will I post a report after? Probably not. Between the time it takes and subjecting yourself to the Internet police, it’s usually not worth it. Even the most innocuous seeming statements and pictures invite criticism. That’s not a statement about this site either, it’s one about people behind screens.

Jmur, sure I fish but I just don’t feel the need to pound my chest and put up a report no one can make sense out of...:D
Btw I have a lil 2yr old that’s taking up all my time.
Anyway, I really believe this board needs a Fishing Reports page.
I just miss the LAB times, he made this forum....I couldn’t wait to read his posts....now it’s” boat limit within the hour, drop & reel fishing, +++++++++++STRIPET LIMIT++++++++++....who gives a F*cK what you caught.
Gives up some useful info like what you used for bait, general area where you got them, how deep you were fishing, something other than telling us how great you are......give us something helpful.
These guys are out there everyday, throw us a bone every once in a while.
This site used to be about info and helpingout a fellow fisherman.
Thank you Freddy for listening and doing something about it.....that goes a long way.....us regulars and future customers will take notice.

If we're going to be honest here, when Lab dictated the law and mixed the pot (and Oh man did he EVER!), I used to spend a half hour a day going through the posts. Lately it's 5-10 minutes a week. Not sure if it's the loss of him, or FB...but it hasn't felt the same in a while.
