First Canyon Run of the Year And the Boys Crushed It
Big Fish of 100, 150, 150 and 250 Pounds To the Boat
Few Other Fish Boated As Well

Capt. Phil Dulanie and Capt. Charlie Vanderbeck took out the John DeRosa charter with his three sons and a friend for our first canyon trip out of New Jersey for 2018 and arrived at the edge around 2pm. Working offshore to find the edge they had their first bite in short order and it was a great one. Three rods went down and the charter spent the next hour fighting fish.
The first fish to the boat was the smallest at around 50 pounds. The next two were cookie cutter 150 pounders. One hell of a way to break the canyon ice for 2018 - our first trip to the canyons saw 100#, 150#, 150# and 250# Tunas? - Game on Boys!!

Fact is we knew they were here and it was going to be a fun trip. The next bite came on the troll and was another in the 35 pound range and then it was time to set up for the night bite. And while we thought it would be blue shark after blue shark we were wrong. The first fish was another 40 pound bluefin. Then not much more for the nice until at 4:30am a deep rod bent in half and a long fight ensued.

After over an hour we took our over fish - all 68 inches of her and fat - close to 250 pounds.

The morning troll saw only another couple bites on bluefins with another big one around 100 pounds but they read a ton of fish all morning. It blew hard SW out there in the morning and most likely that shut off the fish.

Folks the fish are here and it's only going to get better - 4 fish over 100 pounds and one over 200 is just about as good as you can get in the canyons. We are already sold out in May and June with 50 overnighters booked to run before July 4th.

We only have a small handful of dates left in July and August.
Wait no longer or wait until next year.

Great to hear this. Let’s hope the yft show up next month and we get better water than we have seen the past few years.

Oh yeah they were hooked good for sure - fisherman for life.

Just got back today with another decent canyon trip on both boats - limits on bluefin on the 48 Viking including releasing a couple and lost a giant after a 30 minute battle at night. Full report to follow tomorrow.

SWEET!! I hope this is normal and not a freak for 2018. Still feel the sting of 2017 which truly sucked for both BFT and YFT off of NJ.
