AM- This morning we hosted our open boat trip. Loaded the wells and got to where we have been catching. Managed to pick 1 keepers and have a few fish come up and investigate the baits but not take them. Took a ride and found some life. Managed to land another 4 keepers to 18# and have way to many fish come up and chase baits, but not take them. Tough morning overall landing 5 keepers to 18#.

PM- This afternoon we had the Paul Rubee charter out. Reloaded the wells and were fishing within minutes. Same story as the morning trip. Had a lot of fish come up and push and check out the baits, but wouldn't commit to eating them. Managed to land 6 keeper sized stripers (ORL) to 15# for the afternoon.

Years ago I was fishing off Cape May and lots of bass were following jigs up to the surface but not hitting. I changed my leader to 20# fluoro and for the next half hour fished side-by-side with my buddy using the same jig. I caught 10 to his 1. On a trip later that year, my buddy reported similar results. Ever since then I use either 20# or 25# leaders. I would prefer a heavier leader but lighter leaders do seem to make a difference.

Needlefish, at one point we went down to 20# flouro and still didnt make a difference. Think it had to do more with the heat and some of the fish being on the spawn.
