Water separator location

Hi guys, have 1999 23 seahorse hydrosport wa, 1999 225 Johnson, trying to locate the fuel water separator. I know shouldn't be hard, but looked all over and don't see one??
All my other boats always had one, easy access, easy to see/ find. But this one I can't find. Anyone with similar boat?

You may not have one. If you do it would have to be located between the fuel tank and the engine. I would follow the fuel line from the engine and look in places leading back to to the fuel tank that are that are easily accessible like door panels or an inspection or deck plate.

If you don't have one I would recommend you put it on your list. Since you are running an outboard, you want the one with a see through plastic bowl on the bottom since it could save your motor and or a trip. Not sure if your boat has a closed transom or a motor well, if a motor well, the side of the motor well where the fuel line comes out is a good place as any to mount one. If a closed transom then find a place inside the hull that's convenient to get to like behind a panel or inspection plate and away from any wires or electronics.

While you're at it, with the age of your boat which is pre ethanol, I would also consider replacing all the fuel lines with ethanol approved ones. The non ethanol lines can break down over time, collapse and restrict your fuel flow. I've seen guys spend thousands of dollars on all sorts of other stuff, only to find out a small section of their fuel line collapsed causing all their issues.

Fuel water separator should have been mounted solidly on the transom by the motors. It's supposed to be mounted above deck if you use the one suggested with a clear sight bowl and a drain. I think it's a USCG regulation

So Gerry's surmising you may not have one is likely true.

Yep, none on the boat. Previous owner alway used gas treatment, which I do also at every fill up. Maybe I'll get estimate for new fuel line add separator

I have both. No carb/ or EFI or fuel issues ever.


A RACOR/ SIGHT GLASS and run Alcohol Stabil in every single tank. But it's only a 25hp. But with 30 hours of run time a year since 2009.

And before that with a 20HP another 18 years.

Just sold my 20’ my filter was under the port side seat next to the wash down pump, not sure if it’s the same setup, but that’s where mine was mounted, standard fuel filter/water separator no glass... that’s where mine was...

I'll check it out. I do find it strange not having one.
All my boats, going back to 1994 always had one. Ty
