Myself, Mike V. and a few friends will be back out on the Pohatcong creek this year. Were headed there to fish and celebrate the life of Mikes brother Frank, also a very good friend of mine. Its always a good time regardless of the fishing but as always we catch our limits and then some. Seems to be plenty of room for more people on this creek so if your looking for somewhere to go feel free to PM me. I'll kindly share our spot with you. Opening day is the end of Trout season for me as I fish for em' all winter long and usually do very well. The fish are just bigger and I never see another soul in sight. After the opener Im on to other species. Good luck to all you Trouser Trout chasers!!! LOL!!!

On that note, "Where ya headed??? TIGHT LINEZ TO ALL!!!:D

My “crew” and I will most likely be on the musky to start. After we fish a few spots there we are going to head to the pohatcong or the south branch. Then in the afternoon I’m going to take my two young boys to a small creek that’s stocked pretty good in hunterdon. Hopefully the water levels are lower than last years opening day.

I'll be hanging out at my camper near Ocean City. I don't even think I'll be doing any Opening Day Angler Surveys for the Div. this year. The following weekend I'll be somewhere on the Flatbrook on Sat and likely the Musky, SBR or Pohat on Sun.
Good Luck to everyone!! Looks like we'll have very good water levels for the opener this year! Hopefully we don't get a cold shot Fri night to turn the fish off for Sat morning!

My son just turned 4 and I am taking him out for his first opening day. Likely staying local, either Nomahegan, Echo or might try and avoid crowds and hit up one of my favorite holes on the Rahway. Regardless I cannot wait!

I'll be out on Monday after the crowds from the weekend leave. I'll choose after I get on the road. Water levels and clarity will help me decide. Right now, it might be the Paulinskill first and then work my way back to the Pequest, Musky and So. Branch. I'm glad we set the clocks forward because it gets dark later and I can fish longer.

Really all depends on water level this year. Last year waste time for the first hour plus in high water and it wasnt good

I hit rockaway every year with the father-in-law...basically just for tradition sake. the freshly stocked fish don't do too much for me anymore, but it's a nice time.

I’m in it for the people, food and laughs! Tradition should be part of everyone’s lives one way or another. Just being out with friends I don’t see often enough makes me happy. The 8-10 inch Rainbows, ahhhhhhh, fertilizer for my garden! LOL!!! I’m glad there’s still a few people out there that enjoy the tradition! Good luck guys and girls! Don’t forget to post your reports here when all is said and done! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!:D

Like all the other trout fishermen on this board, I'll be at "the river" on opening day (I have to be careful not to give away my super top secret spots that nobody knows about!).

I'll be on the Musky. For the last few years, my fishing club had been having a picnic on opening day. It'll be more about that than the fishing this year. Looks like a cold opener and the fish will probably have lockjaw. Good luck everyone!

Hey Eddie, keep us posted about the laughs. It would be worth starting a separate thread just about the opening day laughs. Some of the sights and sounds from opening day are priceless. I'm sure this year will also have its share of comedy. Of course the funnies always happen to other fishermen, so, everyone, post them if you see them; but no one is exempt from the laughs even if we are on the receiving end.

My friends and I just walked and cleaned 3 river bank miles of the Raritan getting ready for opening day. I will be out again 3/30 putting the finishing touches on a few spots. We have plenty of water down here from the Headgates dam through Duke Island Park. Not to be overlooked is Robert St, Nevius St, and Orlando park all in Raritan borough with plenty of parking.
Don't be afraid of fishing the BIG water. As a bonus since it is the Raritan river who knows what else you may catch.:)

I’ll be @ Seeley’s Pond, Watchung Res. conducting an Opening Angler Survey.

Last Thurs., I helped on the Rahway River, Milton Lake, Nomahegan Pond pre-season stocking run.

2 trucks with a lot of trout = 5,540.

A long day, climbing up & down from the tanks, & hefting trout (some breeder Bows) in to the nets / water.

check a few sites...some still are. the forecasts lately have been BAD you check a few sites and you get a few totally different forecasts! Last night when i checked a few i got anywhere from no snow to 3" any time between friday night and saturday 3pm with temps anywhere between low 30's to low 40's...best weather forecast is to just look out the damn window in the morning i guess!

I agree.

I use Wunderground (Weather Underground) the most, it seems to be the most accurate one I have found.

WU used to be great but the weather channel has since ruined it since they bought it in 2012.

I use john carr's site...He is usually on point and has nailed all the March snow storms. http://www.weathernj.com/

NOAA site is also a good resource without all the hype!

i've noticed that you can't use just one site for all weather...some are better at predicting wind others are better at the clouds/precipitation etc. I haven't found one that i can trust every time for every aspect of weather that i want to know for fishing :(

Not usually a lake guy, but with the fact that Seely's was stocked with so many breeders, might give that a shot in the am. Any feedback out there for what works on this lake? Is it deep in the middle? I was figuring tossing a night crawler out there, but any other thoughts are surely welcome. If that's a skunk then over to the Passaic for a few hours.

Late to the game but probably gonna hit the ole Raritan someplace close to home for a bit in the AM. Never expect too much action in those areas but figure I gotta get out sometime this year so tomorrow is as good as any. Haven't fished NJ yet this year...been hibernatin with this stupid now season going on!

Good luck to all who venture out tomorrow! The waters are LOADED with trout including some BEASTLY breeders! During the lower Flatbrook stocking yesterday I saw many 22-25 inch fish that easily went 5-6 lbs, along with a goodly number on 16-18 inchers in the mix. Also the overall number of fish stocked slightly exceeded the proposed numbers on most waters it appears so there are plenty of fish out there. About the only potential problem I can foresee is the cold in the forecast. A drop in the water temps will most assuredly give the fish lockjaw. Hope for some strong sunshine to warm them by mid-day or it could be a slow fishing day.

I went to Seeley's Pond, an on-stream impoundment of Blue Brook, Berkeley Hts.

One group of oldsters assembles @ the dam @ 3 AM, annually. Grilling eggs, bacon, brats, etc. At 8 AM, all 57 lines were cast. One of the oldsters hooked up & landed a 16" bow, entangled in 2 other lines. But, his hook was the only one in its mouth. Completely dead thereafter @ the dam, on my hourly census.

Green Brook is stocked below the dam & beyond. Several anglers were clustered around the confluence of Blue Brook & Green Brook, hauling in trout after trout. Most were released. Later, one angler grilled up a trout on his Coleman stove. I got whiffs (smelled pretty good) of it quite a ways downstream, where I saw a flock of several Palm Warblers.

At the upstream end of Seeley's an angler had his limit, another had 3 & one had a 4 lb. broodstock.

An angler active with the Cub Scouts said @ a fishing event one kid came with a new rod / reel combo & started casting, but no line was going out. It was still encased in plastic wrap on the spool. The kid said that's how he cast on the fishing video game & he caught fish
