Give me one good reason as to why. Look at all the constant battles we face on a yearly average. Go ahead and wave the white flag if you want to, I will NEVER REGISTER !

Give me one good reason as to why!

Because the fine for NOT having it is $25 first offense and $50 for subsequent offenses.

I was boarded 3 times last season. That woulda been $125. I refuse to throw money away for something that is free.

They can not fine you for something that is free. Also, get fined, pay it and then follow the money trail to see where your 25 bux ends up, probably in some fat cat politicians pocket !!
OR, get fined and don't pay it, are they going to tell you that you can not fish in the Atlantic Ocean anymore !!!
What a joke !!

Registration is free — but anglers caught fishing without a registration card face fines of $300 to $3,000 for a first offense and $500 to $5,000 for subsequent offenses. Fishing groups argue that the fines are excessive. The New Gretna-based Recreational Fishing Alliance said it is complaining directly to the Governor’s Office.
“It’s outrageous to have that type of fine structure. On the saltwater fishing front, nothing else compares,” said Adam Nowalsky of the RFA.
Nowalsky said taking an undersized fish only brings a $70 fine. He urged council to take a stance against the fines.

Councilman Joe Rizzo asked Chanda, who heads the DEP’s Division of Fish and Wildlife, if the fines are comparable to other fisheries violations, including those in fresh water.

Chanda said they can’t be compared to freshwater fishing partly because they are covered by a different statute and also because the registry program has taken up so much of his staff’s time. He said the federal government wanted the fines.

I love the word "FREE" here. My question is for how long? Once they figure out how many fishermen are fishing for "FREE" in their oceans they will start charging so they can milk another cash cow and waste that money also.

Government looks for more money to make more government in the guise of helping the people.

Fishermen will be their next ATM unfortunately. :(

Isn't Federal waters from 0 to 3 miles offshore ? So fishing beyond 3 miles you should not need to register since it is a federal thing, am I correct ?

Going Fishing :: Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office
Recreational Fishing Permits. Anglers aged 16 or older need a permit to fish in Federal waters. All of the states in the Greater Atlantic Region also have fishing license and/or registration requirements. Your state will automatically register you with NOAA's national registry.

Please guys and girls. I too am nit thrilled with regulations and registration but it is the law. Please remember in order to try to get better and more accurate representation of some of the data used to create regs it becomes important to know how many people are fishing our waters. Other wise how can you argue the point of the numbers are wrong if you don’t give them the ability to get it right? You all know quite a bit of their data is incorrect (made up) so let help as much as we can to correct what we can and fight the ones we can’t correct. If you are a true fisherman you want healthy stocks so you and future generations can experience the same excitement you do. Hoping you all have a great year and please get involved in helping our fishery and fighting bad regs. Tight lines FFs

It's just wrong. They lump these "numbers" together.
So I fish a few times off the beach in the fall and keep nothing, lumped in with a guy who fished off the jetty with his kids during summer vacation at the Jersey shore, lumped in with a retiree who fished 6 days a week and keeps everything, lumped in with the guy who has a 60' Post and fishes the canyons, lumped in with party boats, lumped in with a guy who fishes the tidal back bays, you tell me what kind of information you can derive from that !

I'm waiting...............................

I know there are those many of you the won’t be happy with anything they do period. That’s fine but don’t complain that they make up the numbers . I don’t agree with there numbers either but I’m willing do do what I can to improve the possibilities of them being closer to the truth

Yes, by all means register because we all know how well these "numbers" have helped us in the past few years to achieve smaller bag limits and shorter seasons.

Letting them know how many guys are actually fishing gives more voice than you give credit to.
They would love to see less guys registering, as then they can give more of the quota away.
Best thing you can do is inflate the numbers so the stop giving our poundage to other entities.

you don't see Colorado sending us their elk. or montana sending us their antelope.
why should we feed the rest of the US with the resources our state has to offer.
