Managed to sneak out for a little while on Christmas Dve to chase some trout before the holiday festivities. Fishing was pretty good, and I managed a handful of nice browns, a fat rainbow and a tough little brookie that lost part of his tail to a hungry predator. My second slam this month!

Also got out Tuesday with Chrisper. Tough conditions, with freezing guides and ice building on the river but managed a pretty wild brown. Slow day, but made use of it by catching some bait for ice season.

Nice slam! Brookies seem to be the rarest of the three?

Thanks! Brook trout make up the smallest percentage of the three species in my catches, but I dont think its because they are necessarily rare. There are lots of wild brook trout in many streams here in NJ. However, I'm targeting browns and big rainbows. Thus, the techniques and lures I use are geared towards them. If you downsize your lures, and even try small nymphs, jigs, etc, youll probably catch a lot more brookies.

i can understand you were hungry after all that fishing, but did you really have to take a bite out of that brook trout's tail???
