I got a nice laugh while the captain of The Intrepid used a banana to show the various ways he suggests to hook a sardine. Fresh bananas were in the galley the whole trip. I guess it's more of an east coast thing? Just curious if anyone has a strict no banana policy on their boat or will not eat them
While fishing? For what it's worth we slammed the 40-70 lb bluefin.

I have to admit I was slightly edgy after the seminar. I've purged the demons....They're good luck. :D

The bad luck banana on boats thing goes back to the early shipping days when it took many weeks for ships to transport the crop from South American plantations up to market in the U.S. The ships were slow and the crops often spoiled before reaching port. Investors lost all there money with a shipload of spoiled fruit. Another issue with bananas on boat were the large spiders that live in the plants and were transported with them. The dock worked were often bitten by them and viewed bananas and boats as bad luck.

I've heard that one too.

It goes back to mariner bad luck. Not fisherman bad luck. Over the years I guess bananas have been scapegoated for poor captaining skills picking spots too. You know the guys who chase and fish in the shadows of party boats? That kind of captain who can't find a party boat to chase after. LOL
