How'd you guys make out. The J2 sailed and we caught a ton of sea bass, 20 - 1 shorts to keepers but we did catch all day long. Got porgies also, was a fair trip I would say.

Sorry about the late response I wound up with 12 sea bass
And 15 porgies has the same problem with shorts until
I went to 8/0 hooks. The bluefish were very annoying all
Day. I think the offshore waters are stil too warm I hope
When I head out on December 22 the water will have cooled off
A bit. But all things considered was a great trip great boat great
Crew. Can’t wait to get out again

How was the success overall on the boat, and what was the avg size of your keepers? Ours were about barely 13".

I was probably on the high side of the average almost everyone
Had sea bass and porgies and too many bluefish. The fish I kept were
All legit no measure needed fish. But the range was from barely
Legal to about 5 pounds. Some although had a tough time with
Shorts

Anywhere to buy squid after business hours around the fisherman's supply dock area?

Many supermarkets have cartons of frozen squid in the seafood section. It's way less expensive than the tackle shops.

I get a lot of bait from Shoprite seafood section

Went out on this ns boat yesterday. Decent fishing. Tons of doggies. Some knothead bass, tons of porgies, a few bluefish thrown in. Saw one really nice fluke come over the rail. A cod or two and a couple pollack. Overall not bad. Mates were excellent, can't say enough about them. Not sure I'd do an overnight trip again though. Slept like absolute crap. But had fun and have a pile of fish in the freezer. Thanks to all who answered my questions and helped me prepare.

you just need to get a good buzz on;) before bedtime, sleep like a baby on that boat unless it's rough going out.

It was pretty rough going out which didn't help. I was in and out of sleep the entire time. Got stuck downstairs in the red room with the nice diesel fumes so that didn't help either. But fishing was decent. That's what it is all about.

So it sounds like the fishing was better on the J2 than the non-sponsor and PAbeerguy spent 1/2 as much money.
